PLEASE NOTE
THAT IF THE ANSWER TO ANY OF THE 5 QUESTIONS BELOW IS “NO” AND YOU STILL SUBMIT, YOUR POST MAY BE REJECTED OR SENT BACK TO YOU FOR A RE-WRITE.

IS MY POST RELEVANT?

Remember to ask yourself while writing your post, “how does this relate to the speaking industry?” Make sure this connection is evident to the reader. If your topic is a general one, consider tweaking it so that it addresses speakers (i.e. If you’re writing about life balance and you say, “keeping life balance can be challenging”, you can simply change it to read, “keeping life balance as a woman speaker can be challenging.”).

You may, on the other hand, be looking for an opportunity to just get your voice heard. Staying true to our mission to help get women and their message out into the world, our blog may also serve as a platform for you to share your message or expertise. We just ask that you remember who is reading our blog…women speakers! So, don’t forget to ask yourself, “is my post relevant to the reader?”

IS MY POST SOLUTION-ORIENTED?

Review your post and notice if you’re doing any moaning and complaining. If you are, spin it to focus on what you want to see more of rather than what you want to see less of. We want to give you free reign to write about what’s burning inside you, and while we welcome your sharing what you think isn’t working, remember, our goal here is to be forward–thinking. We have no qualms about shaking things up or thinking outside the box, however, we are here to create our own future, so zoning in on the elements that you’d like to see more of in our industry is most productive (i.e. Rather than slamming a speaker for pitching their product from the platform, offer a solution like, “How To Deliver Value While Making An Offering From The Stage” or rather than complaining about a speaker you saw for being boring, offer a solution like “How To Take the Boring Out of Your Presentation”).

DOES MY POST STIR UP DIALOGUE?

Create an opportunity for dialogue around an issue (i.e. Using the same example from above, rather than being resigned or cynical about how you think selling from the platform is just one big pitch fest, consider asking the reader “What are some innovative ways to move product at an event that is authentic and delivers value at the same time?”)

DOES MY POST SHARE WHAT WORKS?

There are alternatives that are working on how to fill a room, move your product, get booked on stage, etc. This is the place to capture, showcase and share those.

DOES MY POST FOCUS ON DELIVERING VALUE?

Ask yourself, “am I using my post as a platform to promote myself or to offer value to the reader?” This is a forum for sharing your thoughts, feelings, experiences and ideas, not for self-promotion.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IF THE ANSWER TO ANY OF THE ABOVE 5 QUESTIONS IS “NO” AND YOU STILL SUBMIT, YOUR POST MAY BE REJECTED OR SENT BACK TO YOU FOR A RE-WRITE. And remember, you must be a WSA member to be published on our blog.
