Everyone knows the golden rule – do unto others as you would have done unto you.

But do you know the golden rule of communication. If you’ve ever caught thinking, “why don’t they understand me” or “I don’t know how to convey the value,” you’re not alone. The normal golden rule doesn’t apply. In fact, there’s a big leap you need to make to communicate effectively. It involves stepping into another’s shoes. Once you do that, you’re halfway there.

On this February 20th WSA-TV Premier Show episode we discuss the importance of the new golden rules of communication.

Featuring: Dr. Janet Sawyer & Alexis Schomer

Dr. Janet Sawyer asks “Are you Results, Group, Relationship, or Detailed-oriented? Knowing the answer to this question will help you learn how to communicate effectively and treat people the way they like to be treated, NOT the way you like to be treated. Totally opposite from the Golden Rule.”

Alexis Schomer suggests that “Before diving into a marketing campaign, take a moment to think about the ideal outcome and the purpose of your initiative. We often see business owners make poor decisions because of a current trend or something they heard from a friend. Marketing is not a one-size-fits-all solution and just because Facebook ads worked well for one business does not mean it’s the right marketing channel for all businesses. My actionable advice is to either work with a marketing consultant with a proven track record or take the time to do thorough marketing research to identify your target market and the best channels to reach them.
